Significant Abdominal Wall Hematoma From an Umbilical Port Insertion
نویسنده
چکیده
Laparoscopists consider the umbilical and ventral midline area to be "vascular safe." On occasion, however, the insertion of the first trocar at the umbilical port may result in severe abdominal wall hematoma.

Intra-abdominal and abdominal wall haematoma from 5 mm port insertion site in laparoscopic cholecystectomy
Trocar insertion is an essential and initial part in any laparoscopic procedure. Inadvertent abdominal wall vascular injury, leading to intra-abdominal bleeding or abdominal wall haematoma due to trocar insertion, may occur at this first step. We report here a case of uneventful laparoscopic cholecystectomy in a 44-year-old woman, which was followed later by large abdominal wall haematoma throu...
متن کاملOpen Port Placement of the First Laparoscopic Port: A Safe Technique
BACKGROUND Blind insertion of the Veress needle and of the first trocar is a significant cause of complications in laparoscopic surgery. Despite this risk, the closed technique is still more popular than the open one. Our aim is to report the results of our experience with the routine use of the modified open technique in laparoscopic surgery and to describe the technical details of the creatio...
متن کاملThe Umbilical Benz Incision for Reduced Port Surgery in Pediatric Patients
BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES For reduced port surgery in pediatric patients, the initial umbilical incision plays an important role in both functional ability and cosmetic impact. Larger umbilical incisions enable better manipulation of forceps, extraction of larger surgical specimens, and easier exteriorization of the intestine for anastomosis. We have pursued an incision of the small pediatric u...
متن کاملUREKA: Umbilical Ring Easy Kannula Access
BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES Standard techniques of laparoscopic access involve creating an abdominal wall defect and can result in complications. We describe the umbilical ring easy kannula access (UREKA) technique, evaluating safety and a decrease in complications related to port placement. METHODS UREKA is performed via a supra- or infraumbilical incision followed by circumferential dissectio...
متن کاملLaparoscopic Hernia Repair: a Two-Port Technique
OBJECTIVE Various ventral and incisional hernia repair techniques exist and have largely replaced the open ones. The purpose of this study was to document the 2-port technique and demonstrate that it is feasible, efficient, and safe. To our knowledge, this is the largest report on this topic to date in the English-language literature. METHODS Forty patients with ventral hernias (VH) or incisi...
